Events continued for the Eight Ghosts authors with Max Porter at Eltham Palace, Mark Haddon and York Cold War Bunker, Stuart Evers at Dover Castle and Sarah Perry at Audley End. They were wonderful evenings of chilling stories and atmospheric historic tours.
Saturday was a wonderfully atmospheric evening at Carlisle Castle with Andrew Michael Hurley, the first of a series of English Heritage events to celebrate the publication of Eight Ghosts. Andrew read from his short story ‘Mr Lanyard’s Last Case’, revealed how and why the castle inspired him, and discussed the history of the ghost story. Guests were then led on an after-dark tour of the castle itself.
There are five more events coming up, starting with Kamila Shamsie at Kenilworth Castle on Tuesday evening.
The world of Eight Ghosts comes to life in this wonderful video by English Heritage. With stories inspired by English Heritage properties from Mark Haddon, Sarah Perry, Max Porter, Kamila Shamsie, Kate Clanchy, Stuart Evers and Jeanette Winterson, this is an original, atmospheric read not to be missed!
